About This Scholarship
This scholarship was created in 2014 in memory of Ken Uffman to enable a teacher to attend the Jump$tart National Educator Conference. Here, teachers gain access to new and exciting ways to incorporate financial education into their everyday classroom curriculum. Ken Uffman, the retired President and CEO of the Credit Bureau of Baton Rouge, organized the Louisiana Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy in 2003 to coordinate and promote partnerships with federal, state and local governments, non-profit organizations and private enterprises. He made improving the financial literacy of students and adults his mission recognizing that poor financial literacy and discipline can reduce an individual’s economic well-being and security in many ways.
The Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy is a 501-c-3 tax-exempt non-profit organization based in Washington, DC. As a coalition, it is an organization of organizations that share a commitment to advancing financial literacy among pre-school through college-age youth and working collaboratively toward effective financial education. The coalition consists of a network of 51 affiliated state coalitions and their local partners and about 150 national partner organizations from the business, financial, non-profit, association, academic, government, and other sectors.
